Insurance companies are great friends in a time of need. All though not every story of insurance companies are great. Many do solve the insureds problems.
While no list of to do's on insurance can be complete, Here are a few pointers.
Make sure you have up to date insurances.
Make sure you have Flood insurance.
Make sure you have a copy of your policy and know your deductible.
Check with your agent to make sure all coverages are in force.
Keep insurance papers in a safe place.
