Loyola University New Orleans announces the Senior One Act Festival
Senior One-Act Festival
A Collection of Artistic Excellence
NEW ORLEANS—After a year of planning complicated by a hurricane and a cancelled fall semester, the seniors of Loyola University New Orleans Department of Drama and Speech announce the Senior One Act Festival running from April 5th through April 19th. All performances will be held in Lower Depths Theater in the Communications/Music Complex on Loyola’s campus, at 7pm with free admission.
This season’s festival is a collection of artistic excellence showcasing the work of several renowned playwrights. The festival features five different shows divided into three groups. The first performance is To the Chicago Abyss by Ray Bradbury, directed by Ian Hoch showing on April 5 & 6. The second group of performances showcases the plays 4.48 Psychosis by Sarah Kane, adapted and directed by Kerri Driscoll and The Intruder by Maurice Maeterlinck, directed by Zoe Rutledge nad showing on Aptil 10 & 11. The final group, showing on April 18 & 19 will present the original play by Loyola student Kevin Smith, Play for Blood, directed by Kaity Talmage-Bowers. An adaptation of Andrew McDonald’s The Turner Diaries, directed by John Harris, is also showing in that group.
This year’s festival carries an added significance than in years past for its seniors. It represents a journey completed. Preparation for the festival began last summer when Hurricane Katrina forced a cancellation of the fall semester, the seniors had to think quickly. The seniors communicated with the faculty for advising and submitted their proposals through e-mail from the various universities they transferred to. Now they are back and have been working to cram a year’s worth of work into one semester.
The One-Act Festival is a bi-annual event sponsored by the Loyola Department of Drama and Speech and coordinated by the department seniors. These productions serve as their senior thesis.
