JPAS' summer musical theatre programs provide a challenging and high-quality education to students of the Greater New Orleans area. The students at our summer theatre programs are challenged, encouraged, stretched and enriched through a loving and inviting environment. They are supported by a professional staff on stage and in the orchestra pit.
Registration will start Wednesday morning April 26, at 9:00 a.m. on 1118 Clearview Pkwy, Metairie. All forms must be completely filled out and have the listed deposit amount attached. We will be accepting 60 young adults, entering the 8th grade through recently graduated seniors. Once those positions are filled, all further applicants will be put on our waiting list. You can download the registration form from our website at www.jpas.org. THE CORRECT DATES FOR JULY ARE: JULY 1-31. Please make a note of this, as these dates are different than the registration form online.
Once the camp is full, students will have auditions on July 1st. They will then be trained and practice their roles from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. At the end of the month, the students appear in 6 performances. These, as well as the camp itself, will be held at East Jefferson High School, located at 400 Phlox St.
Our goal is to help young performing artists develop a deeper love of the arts using their imaginations, voices and bodies in a challenging and rewarding way. The staff this summer is administered and musically directed/conducted by Ms. Lauren Buckley who has been JPAS' artistic director of Children's Choirs. Mr. Blake Cohely, well known dancer, choreographer and NOCCA faculty member is Director/Choreographer and Ms. Lynne Lawrence, frequent JPAS mainstage choreographer is his assistant. Mr. Alan Payne, JPAS' assistant Music Director and frequent star of JPAS mainstage productions will be Assistant Music Director and Mr. Brady McKellar, JPAS mainstage Costume Designer will also be contributing his skills.
Young people will get the opportunity to work with professional directors, conductors, costumers and an array of technical staff. At JPAS we put the STUDENTS first and give them the opportunity to spread their wings in a remarkable way. If you would like to be part of this extraordinary program please give us a call.
