Songwriters Showcase
Majik by the Oaks
We are pleased to announce the first of many "Songwriters" performances. Join us in the intimate setting of Oak Alley Plantation's Open Air Pavilion on April 8th, 2006, for an evening of interactive educational and entertaining performances by three of Nashville's well known songwriters that will come to perform live. The evening will begin at 6:00 pm with a buffet dinner starting at 6:30 pm. Dessert demonstration by Chef Tracie Chiquet and Chef Johnny Jam. At 8 pm the songwriters will begin performing and encourage the audience questions and interaction.
Tony Haselden - A Louisiana native who began his career as a member of the band Louisiana's LeRoux, Tony's songwriting credits include Michelle Wright's ("Take It Like A Man,") the Kinleys' ("Please"), George Strait's ("You Know Me Better Than That,") Keith Whitley's ("It Ain't Nothin")," Shenandoah's ("Mama Knows") and Collin Raye's ("That's My Story"). A Grammy-nominated producer, Tony was responsible for the only Country single on the platinum-selling Touched By An Angel soundtrack.
Billy Kirsch - Billy's songwriting resume includes Steve Wariner's ("Holes In The Floor Of Heaven"), which received Song of the Year honors from NSAI (1998), the Country Music Association (1998) and the Academy of Country Music (1999). Billy's other songwriting credits include Jimmy Wayne's ("Stay Gone"), Wynonna's ("Is It Over Yet") and ("Come Some Rainy Day"), Clay Walker's ("My Heart Will Never Know"), Alabama's ("Of Course I'm Alright") and Doug Stone's ("Sometimes I Forget"). Billy was instrumental in NSAI's introducing the Songwriters Capital Gains Tax Equity Act.
Gene Nelson - Grew up on North Carolina's Outer Banks, where he listened to his grandfather and father play bluegrass gospel music in church and on local radio. But it wasn't until the Beatles and Peter, Paul and Mary came along that he found his passion for music. Since the age of fourteen Gene has been playing and writing music, first in High school bands, then out in Los Angeles for seven years. He finally came to his senses and moved to Nashville in 1984, where he enjoyed continued success writing hits for Kathy Mattea ("Eighteen Wheels And A Dozen Roses"), Doug Stone ("A Jukebox With A Country Song"), Diamond Rio ("Bubba Hyde"), and Rascal Flatts ("This Everyday Love"). He has also had cuts by such artists as Trisha Yearwood, Don Williams, George Jones, and Peter, Paul and Mary, reflecting his varied musical background. When he is not writing, he enjoys sailing into the sunset with his family.
