LOST BREAD prsented by Ronnie Virgets in conversation with Arthur Hardy
“ ‘Lost Bread’ was the name of a homemade and delicious dessert
that was passing out of practice when I was a child . . . .
based on stale bread and the belief that what was lost can now be found….”
from the “Introduction” to Ronnie Virgets’ LOST BREAD, written before Katrina
LOST BREAD
An Evening of Recollections, Reflections, and Ruminations
presented by
RONNIE VIRGETS
in conversation with Arthur Hardy
The public is invited to an evening of recollections, reflections, and ruminations at East Bank Regional Library as local personality, author, columnist, and entertainer Ronnie Virgets discusses his new book, LOST BREAD, with another local favorite, Arthur Hardy. Join us on Wednesday, May 31, at 7:00 PM, at East Bank Regional Library, 4747 West Napoleon Ave., Metairie, LA.
The program is free and open to the public, and registration is not required. A question-and-answer session and book signing will follow the presentation. Books will be available for purchase, made possible by Friends of Jefferson Public Library, with cash and checks accepted.
Ronnie will read from and talk about his just released book, LOST BREAD, with his friend and publisher of the book, Arthur Hardy. All of the pieces which appear in LOST BREAD were written before the storm, with one final exception. His “Diary of a Displaced Person,” which first appeared in the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities’ Winter 2005-06 LOUISIANA CULTURAL VISTAS, closes the book. If readers are already longing for the pre-hurricane New Orleans, it can still be found within the pages of LOST BREAD and recollected at the program on May 31st.
Ronnie Virgets is also the author of the now out-of-print HEY, CAP! – THE NEW ORLEANS VIEWS OF RONNIE VIRGETS and contributes a biweekly column, “Virgets,” to GAMBIT WEEKLY. He has served as the Master of Ceremonies for the recorded-live radio variety show WWNO’s CRESCENT CITY* recorded live from Le Chat Noir, has appeared on stage in various performances including “Win, Place, Show!” and has even been spotted in a Fairgrounds commercial with Pete Fountain.
He has worked as a Bourbon Street bartender, a journalism professor, a racetrack PR director, a newspaper sportswriter, and television commentator entertaining us with his New Orleans sketches and reflections. Ronnie has won many awards from the New Orleans Press Club for his writing in THE TIMES-PICAYUNE, GAMBIT WEEKLY, and NEW ORLEANS MAGAZINE. His awards for his television work include an Emmy. And once royalty, always royalty, Ronnie reigned as the 1996 King of Krewe du Vieux.
Arthur Hardy, Mardi Gras expert, historian, collector, and lecturer—and no stranger to Jefferson Parish Library—is the creator of the annual MARDI GRAS GUIDE and author of MARDI GRAS IN NEW ORLEANS: AN ILLUSTRATED HISTORY.

His first book is "Say, Cap." not "Hey, Cap."
