New Orleans Wedding Videography - Gulfrim Pictures
With the easy availabilty of video equipment in the market today, wedding video has sprouted, so much so that it seems a normal occurence. However, you should be aware that having someone with a good camera and tripod, but without a sense of storytelling, record your wedding will usually provide you with a beautiful and totally boring product which only the passage of time will allow the owners or owner (female) to watch in it's entirety.
As a passionate movie enthuiast, actor and screenwriter, I know that every really good film (video included in this termminology) will attempt to tell a story having three distinct parts: a beginning, a middle and an end. The beginning should in someway connect with the end or visa versa. Most of the wedding video's I have seen are not telling a story (romantic or otherwise) but are simple home videos done with better equipment (hopefully). When I started doing wedding videos, I first decided that I wanted to tell the story of the people getting married- the real people. I wanted to show the viewer that the people in the gowns and tuxs were real red blooded people.
I wondered how? Of course I want to portray the cinderella/princess fairy tale that many embrace but I needed to go a bit further- an extra something that seemed to be missing in the videos I watched. That's when a journalist friend of mine suggested pre-wedding interviews. It sounded good so I tried it on my son and daughter-in-law when they took the plunge. It worked like a miracle! I think we all crave recognition in some way or another. Because of this human trait many people "act" for the camera. While you might not be able to put your finger directly on the reason, when you watch them, they appear flat and unreal. Watching a long production can get to be a trial of tedium. It is amazing how a dozen or so unrehersed questions posed to someone when the camera is rolling will bring out of real living person that can actually be entertaining. I have included interviews in all of my weddings films and while I doubt if I will be getting an Oscar for any of them, I do have the satisfaction of knowing that the couple can enjoy showing their family and friends their story. And maybe even provide the popcorn.
