4 One Act Comedies to end the Spring Semester

Woody Allen’s GOD is a comic-bit fest, a loony send-up of Greek tragedy, a frisky romp through gothic drama, a madcap version of Victorian melodrama.... “GOD makes fun of everything and everybody,” according to director Aimée Hayes, “maybe even you!”  Jessa Bingham, Brian Davis, Corey Dunn, Andrew Eichner, Daria Kester, Jessie King, Jessica Lewis, Greg Linden, Richard Mayer, Jenna Rosa, Nancy Schmitt, Peter Steinau and Nancy Upton make up the cast.

LEONARDO’S LAST SUPPER, by Peter Barnes, poses a disturbing dilemma:  when the great Leonardo da Vinci is mistakenly pronounced dead, will the undertakers in a filthy Renaissance charnel-house kill him for the funeral payment, or let the greatest of all the ‘Renaissance Men’ live to create future masterpieces?  Buzz Podewell, directs Andrew Belcher, Marleena Feehery, Sean Mellott, Neil Traft and Dana Webb.

THREE PLAYS BY WILLIAM DONNELLY are a string of 10-minute comic gems about unexpected messages, swimming upstream against a tide of idiocy and marriage played with virtuosity.  Mr. Donnelly is the resident playwright of the Industrial Theatre in Cambridge, MA.  His plays have appeared in the Boston Theatre Marathon; his APOCALYPSO! was a finalist in the Clauder Competition. Director Paul Schierhom  is delighted to introduce his work to New Orleans.  The actors are Lauren Elens, Claire Greshman, Jennifer Groves, Scott Jennings, Sarah Pynes, Jenny Smith, Charlie Spiegel, Greg Starr, and Rebecca Williams.

In WASP, Steve Martin has created a play that could be described as a cross between “Leave It to Beaver” and “Twin Peaks”.  The play takes a trip to ‘The Heartland’ of America in the 1950’s.  Martin’s subjects are a family of – at first glance – an ordinary mom, dad, sis and son, who, after a few moments, are revealed as painfully far from the conventional.  Ron Gural directs a cast comprised of Evan Prizant, Kristin Faucher, Jamie Kurash,  Harry Boileau, Amy Sherman and Andrew Zabko in this comic look at the not-so-nuclear family.

Anita Algiene is the set designer, Max Lawrence the lighting designer, and Michelle Bohn and Elsa Dimitriadis are the costume designers.
