fundementalist remark, " God made Adam and Eve , not Adam and Steve" Suppose God had
started things off with two guys , and the first lesbians as well, Jane
and Mabel? Creation tales tend towards the delirious; trying to explain the
cosmos inevitably leads to comedy. What this play does is explore larger
matters of faith through a frame of biblical events. Act One of MOST
FABULOUS follows two couples' adventures in creating civilization;
these four reach different conclusions about the nature of nature. Act One is
presented in broad strokes, befitting the tumult of society's
beginnings,
and the characters don't age as they hurtle from the Garden of Eden to
slavery in Egypt and beyond. Their motives, however are not farcical
but absolutely sincere. Act Two traces the modern-day results of Act One,
to see where faith has landed in contemporary Manhatten. The personalities,
opinions and lusts of our four main characters remain in tact, only the
quartet have no memory of their lives before the intermission. Adam is
now a teacher at a ritzy private school, Steve is a contractor, and Jane and
Mabel are awaiting the birth of a child. Primal innocence is no longer
possible in Act Two, as the characters, and the planet itself have seen
too much; history has occurred. The ending suprises and shocks, a must
see. Is there a God or Supreme Being?
